One of the neatest things around these days are wedding websites. We created a great wedding website through mywedding.com. It was a great way for our guests to be able to view information about our wedding and to even RSVP online! It saved us some money because we didn’t have to buy stamps for RSVP cards and kept things pretty orderly for us. I loved the idea but for some reason I couldn’t get over the title: mywedding.com. It wasn’t my wedding, it was OUR wedding! But it was the best option that was free. And we loved free. So I realized that I could easily purchase JoshandSabrena.com (which was much more fun on our invitations than our lengthy url www.mywedding.com/sabrenaandjosh). I studied graphic design and had someone show me how to do this in five minutes. It occurred to me recently that some brides are paying up to $60.00 or more to get a website that gives them a custom URL, which is available for one year at a cost of $10.87! So, I thought, what a great idea for our Take A Look this week. Here my friends are the easy steps to purchasing a domain name and then forwarding (telling it to go to a website you’ve already established that might have a lengthier or more confusing name) it to any website you may have.
Note to fellow photographers or other entrapreneurs:: this is a great way to make sure you can secure your domain even if you’re not ready to launch a custom website!
Step 1: Visit Godaddy.com and search to see if your domain is available.

Step 2: Once you find a name that is available select the name URL’s you’d like to purchase. (We only purchased .com for this)

Step 3: Click the orange button that says continue to registration. At this point they will try to entice you with several add ons but if you’re only interested in forwarding you won’t need any of these.
Step 4: Select how long you’d like to purchase the domain for & fill out the site registration so they can set up your account. You pay up front so selecting more than one year means the total will go up.

Step 5: Finalize your order & Select payment information

Step 6: After your payment has been processed you are able to log in to your account with GoDaddy.com and see the domains that you own. Notice here that I helped my friends Kelsey and Gavin with this! Click on your new domain name to edit the preferences.

Step 7: This is your control panel for your new domain. Click the button that says forwarding.

Step 8: Type in the URL of the website that you’d like your address to point to. Click OK.

That’s it! Easy as pie! It can take an hour or so for it to start working but I’m happy to announce that we have a new blog URL: www.scarterstudiosblog.com . Making it a lot easier to explain and a lot more professional than scarterstudios.com/wordpress. Go Daddy has excellent customer service should you have any trouble during this process!
Josh and I kept our URL: joshandsabrena.com (his name first because I planned to use it after the wedding) and it now points to our family blog. Feel free to visit but don’t judge me for not having been very good at keeping it up! It doesn’t even talk about us having moved. It’s on the list, somewhere, down at the bottom, of things to work on, lol.
