The Mengs – Lynchburg Family Photographer

Oh the precious Mengs! If you’ve been reading for a while you’ll already know Brittany and how we were roommates in college and that she and Aaron were my very first wedding. You’ll remember her being my first baby bump photos and these precious photos of her twin boys from way back when, and then from a little later than that! We took some new photos this Fall and it’s just amazing to watch these boys grow. Enjoy just a few shots from our fast paced and chilly session!

Jordan and Jen – Sweetheart Session – Portrait, Wedding and Engagement Photographer

Jordan and I used to work together years ago. He was the graphic designer for our publication and adamantly insisted that there should be no photos of people smiling in the publication and really in life in general. It was the cause of great glee when he messaged me all the way from Hawaii because all he wanted was some good pictures of him and his then girlfriend (now wife!) smiling together. So, with a big smile on MY face I spent the afternoon with these love birds trying to explore downtown Lynchburg in a new way!

Paul and Jenny – Savannah Engagement Photographer

Jenny and Paul, what can we say about Jenny and Paul. I’ve known Jenny for nearly a decade and in that time we’ve taken over a thousand pictures together. Typically with much eye rolling and complaining on her part. Admittedly, I’m a little obnoxious about pictures of my family and friends, but STILL! I was thrilled when she and Paul asked us to be their engagement and wedding photographers. The session went on with lots of laughing, crazy facial expressions and promises of “just a few more shots.” These are some of my favorite images from their engagement session in the Carolina pines!

This wonderful family invited us over for pictures to celebrate being together as brother Jonathon prepared to go to the Middle East for work. It was an easy session even with the family pets sitting obediently in the frame! I loved that Mama and Papa Washburn invited their other “children” into one of the shots as well. What a special group of people!

During 2008, I visited my University’s gym almost every morning, before 8 am. Yes, even now I can’t fathom where I accessed that kind of drive inside myself but alas, I did. Many of those mornings I was greeted by the smiling Meredith! I imagine I wasn’t very cheery but am glad that didn’t keep her from contacting me about a couple’s session for her and Kyle. We planned it months in advance, only to be rained out on our first attempt and waited a few more months for the perfect Fall weather. It was well worth the wait as beautiful leaves and crisp weather definitely worked in our favor.

Meredith’s family has been a part of the Pepsi corp for several generations so we incorporated classic Pepsi paraphernalia into their session!

It was a great session, hopefully next time they’ll bring their sweet puppy with them too! I so enjoyed the beautiful Christmas card they sent featuring one of the images as well. That’s one of the best perks of my job!

Aaron and Ryane – Bristol Wedding Photographer

We made our second annual trip to Bristol, VA, for Aaron and Ryane’s wedding. Did you see their sweet engagement session? Look here if you missed them! We love making the trip to Bristol because we get to see so many of our friends/previous clients like Ryane’s bridesmaids Johnna and Candace! There was so much to love about Ryane and Aaron’s celebration including lots of fun details which Ryane credited to many hours on Etsy. The girls were amazingly kind and supportive and Aaron’s guys were the picture of chill as we tromped around in the heat for their photos. We were worried about rain but nothing could stop this celebration years in the making!

Random fun fact: Aaron and my husband Josh have the same awesome wedding band.

She has been tying his bow ties for years so it was only fitting that after much double checking of the blindfold, she tie bow tie his for their wedding day!

She spoiled her groom with some sweet Ray Ban sunglasses. Suffice to say, he liked them.

Phillips Family – Lynchburg Family Photographer

As I get older I begin to understand how valuable it is to have all of your family in one place. I was thrilled with the Phillips family contacted me because they knew their crew would all be together and they wanted to honor their parents with beautiful family photos to celebrate the occasion! I think we came out with a few framers from the bunch!

Devin and Katelyn – Virginia Wedding Photographer

Fireworks! Do you remember their amazing engagement session? I anticipated their wedding day just as much and Devin and Katelyn did not disappoint! First of all her dress was incredible, full of detail, completely regal and gorgeous! His expression as he saw his bride during their first look was priceless and then instantaneously they turned back into their model selves! Their wedding and reception was at the beautiful Berry Hill Estate. It did not disappoint with many places to take amazing photographs. Looking back you may not even remember that it rained on their wedding day for several hours. We had just the right amount of timing and lighting to get some of our best images of the year!

The reception was sweet and intimate, with one of the best seating arrangements I’ve ever seen (head table nestled between table rounds in the center of the seating rather than awkwardly placed at the front) but it had it’s hilarious and entertaining moments as well. Peter and Sarah – Charlottesville Wedding Photographer

As soon as Sarah and Peter were engaged, I was hoping I could some how be a part of the celebration. As I got to know Sarah and hear about her relationship with Peter I knew their wedding was going to be a full on party celebrating God’s work in their lives and a break of a crazy time for them academically and career wise. I don’t know that I’ve ever been happier to know that a couple was escaping to their honeymoon than I was for these two!

Sarah’s family worked together to craft many of the details you’ll see below! Hand painted signs and personally crafted wreaths are just the tip of the iceberg. We’re talking an awesome guestbook, incredible dessert table and live Karaoke to end it all. It was a crazy, hot day and night but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world! Each of the women who walked down the aisle before Sarah carried blooms that created this gorgeous arrangement that was placed in front of the alter.

There are over 300 years of lasting marriage on both sides of their families. This is my favorite “husbands kiss your wives on the cheek” picture that I’ve ever taken. So many generations, promises and role models!

The Mast Family – Lynchburg Family Photographer

Years ago, when S. Carter Studios had barely formed, Stephanie and Joshua asked me to do a session for them. I still distinctly remember being so nervous! Fast forward to Law School bringing them back to Lynchburg and the happy news that they were expecting. We all agreed they needed a last few pictures as just a family of two so we returned to the same place we’d gone on our first session! They have a natural, sweet way around each other and it made my job quite easy!

Stephanie looked fabulous. Seriously, baby William could have come any day when we were taking these pictures!

This one is my favorite.

Then fast forward a few more months and the Masts asked me to take some new photos of their family of three! It was a very cold day and William had his game face on. I think he’s just practicing modeling!

and, just because I think it’s an awesome picture I want to brag on Stephanie for a minute! She took this great photo of her sweet boy!
