Well, there are a few ways I could start this post. I could start with how truly teachable and sincere Julie is or how she took such joy and pride in her work. I could definitely tell a story or two about how helpful she was just when I needed her and how she helped me to remember why I love my job again. I think I’ll just start by telling you that she’s truly one of a kind and will by our very only Intern 2.0. Our first intern Jenny, who was with us for a year, let some awfully big shoes to fill. Julie did a great job of bringing a new perspective to S. Carter Studios and became an even more dear friend. She’s done her share of work: editing thousands of images, packing and repacking the camera bags, entering receipts, manning our Photo Booth all by herself during one of our most fun and craziest weddings, reupholstering chairs, and putting up with my craziness. Soon we’ll have our Julie photo shoot and you can see how lovely she is but until then enjoy seeing how helpful, silly and talented she is!

this wedding would have been impossible without her super extendo flash holding arm.

Don’t be fooled, she’s holding the bride and groom’s cherry limeades, not vacationing in Florida.

Silly: I guess it deserves mention that I am the one photo boothing-it-up with her in these. I mean, if you set the whole thing up, it’s totally worth it to have the experience!

Today is a slightly sad day in S. Carter Studios history. We’re saying goodbye to our very first intern: Jenny. I remember the first time that she emailed me, about a year and a half ago, just asking if we could get together for coffee and a few questions. I’m not sure that either of us knew what God had in mind from there but I can tell you that looking back, I’m not sure what I would have done without her! Instead of having some photos of her (because she’s asked me for a rain check ont hem) I’ve decided to encourage you take a look at some of her work!

Just take a look at what she’s done over the past year: edited over 15,000 photos, packed and repacked camera bags and batteries, helped pack and move an entire office, swept the office floor, gift wrapped albums, organized random props, seen me get a speeding ticket, slept in a king size bed with me, done my dishes, dealt with irritating mothers of the bride, battled demanding priorities, moved bookshelves into the creepy basement, entered hundreds of receipts, started a new company, entered the blogging sphere, carried gear, done your first wedding by yourself, began to twitter, and developed a complete identity for paper napkin photo!

She’s pushed me to be a better photographer, to be a clear communicator, to not take anything for granted, to really live the things that I say I believe and to be organized and focused. I’ve been encouraged by her joy, hard work, commitment, sense of humor, willingness to try new things, ability to rise to meet the challenges put before her, humility, and love for other people!

I have seen her grow so much in shooting, editing, and professionalism. I am proud to suggest her to potential clients because I know that they can trust her to do her very best and I know that you’ll honor the Lord with the talents and gifts that he’s given her.  So, Jenny, you’re officially an S. Carter Studios internship survivor and I couldn’t be more proud to be able to say that I was a part of your journey!

    October 14th, 2009adminLife

October 14th is a nice round number. It’s always been special because it’s two days after columbus day. It’s also been special because it’s my little brother’s birthday. I found out that he has a birthday twin, which is a very fun thing if you ask me, and her name is Jenny. She also happens to be my intern and you all haven’t heard much about her so I thought I’d take time on 10/14 to tell you a little about both of them!

My brother is 14 months younger than I am. In my head I think he’s at least two years but it seems crazy to me that he’s 23 today. He’s been my partner in crime / mortal enemy for over two decades and has the power to charm me even when I’m at my angriest.

Yes, we were both much chunkier then.

It’s been a pretty wild and fun ride. He’s the kind of guy who risks getting arrested on your wedding day to keep one of the bridesmaid from getting a silly parking ticket. He’s one of the best navigators I know and he loves his family more than we deserve.

Happy birthday to you Christopher Andrew. I love you!

    Part 2

I’m sure you’ve caught my illusions to a wonderful, talented assistant. Her name is Jenny and she’s the eye behind Paper Napkin Photo. It’s been such a wonderful experience working with her and I’m so proud of how far she’s come during our time together! She doesn’t sleep enough and has this crazy thing for measuring wounds with clipboards but I think I’ll keep her around. Thank you Jenny for all your hard work this summer and fall, I don’t think I would have made it through a few of these things without you!!

Here is Jenny, we haven’t taken any head shots yet but here are some photos of her in action!

Happy birthday to you Ms. Jenny!!

I’d show you how I can balance a birthday cake on my head but I have a feeling that would be dangerous.
