It’s time for the truth, there’s another man in my life. He’s a little too young for me but that doesn’t keep me from laying kisses all over his cheeks, fingers and toes! This summer I became part of Ezra’s life on a regular basis and I couldn’t be more thankful for the perspective he brings. I knew we’d be busy this summer and the temptation when you’re busy with weddings and editing weddings and looking at other people’s photos from weddings is to get caught up in a world that isn’t realistic and certainly doesn’t encourage any selflessness. So, God hooked me up with the best distraction ever: Ezra. As a secret project for his parents I brought my camera with me a few times to capture his silly faces and little glimpses of his life as a brand new 1 year old.
A normal day: I get there early and we play.

Then, when he gets a little grumpy he crawls up to me and this means its time to eat.

I mean really, look at that face!

Part of the reason I can’t eat bananas like I used to.

Then we get down and do some crawling.

We do this until we get grumpy again and then it’s time for lunch.

I promise, he’s teething, I’m not torturing him but just look at that expression. Have you ever sen anything so sad?

George ( a throwback from his dad’s time) keeps us company.

But the truth is, Ezra is a messy eater.

So somtimes lunch time is also followed by bath time.

Which is followed by nap time.

Nap time is very helpful for renewing.

Just one standard, 1 year photo session shot. Which is now hanging on my fridge.

I’m sure it won’t be long until he can crawl up in that chair all by himself, but until then, I’m thankful I get to be there to help!

I grew up in Seattle, WA. I’m a proud fan of recycling, Mariner’s baseball, beautiful snow capped mountains and Ivar’s clam chowder. When I was in high school my family relocated from Seattle to Ridgeland, South Carolina. Two BIG words : Culture & Shock. There were a lot of differences and accommodations to be made by the locals as well as our family BUT I had the opportunity to make wonderful friends and truly learn how to appreciate a little rest and relaxation. I go back to South Carolina about every six months or so to visit some great friends I have there. This time I decided to try and mix a little business with pleasure. Enter: Lauren. I’m going to give Lauren the biggest fan residing in the great lowcountry award. She all but spearheaded my trip down there and rallied the troops to try and get as many sessions as possible! I loved working with her, her brother and a best friend, Jennifer. Here are some photos from our mini sessions!
Lauren and her younger brother Jeremy took photos as a gift for their mom!

Gotta love those Carolina pines!

and mother to be Jennifer (with baby London coming soon) and her daughter Rylynn.

We finished with a few of the ladies together.

We’ll keep you posted on possible mini sessions in Ridgeland, SC, when we plan our next trip!

April 14th, 2010FamilyBirthdays are a big deal to me. Really, one day a year where everyone you care about celebrates your existence! Sign me up, lol. I’ve had a few birthdays, 24 to be exact, but today, though not my birthday, was very special because I got to take photos of a very precious little girl on her 6th birthday. I feel six is an important one and I’m sure Elise does too. My gift for her (and her parents) was just a few photos of a beautiful girl on her one and only 6th birthday! It’s a little past midnight in our time zone but I know she has people in Michigan who wished they could have been there so I’m going to still count this as being posted on her birthday. Happy birthday Elise, I’m so glad I could come to your party!

As if one little blue eyed blonde haired beauty isn’t enough, there’s another!
trust me, I know it’s out of control how pretty they are! I’m sure their dad is pretty aware and is already preparing to fend off the boys!
A shot of the whole family!
Thanks for letting me “crash” the party guys! And Erin, I agree, the frosting was AMAZING. -
April 12th, 2010FamilyReally, it’s hard to imagine many better ways to enjoy a Saturday morning than skipping around a beautiful park with three lovely little girls! Oh, and their fun and cute parents too! That’s what I did this Saturday with the Wilsons! Enjoy a few photos from their family session!
Meet: Joanna, the oldest.

Naomi, the second oldest

and Gracie, the youngest.

‘I love sisters. My sister and I are pretty close and these girls seem to be too!

We had a great time, and even let mom and dad in on some of the photos too.

Thank you Wilson family for letting us be a part of your lives!

April 2nd, 2010Engagement, Family, LifeI met Warrick before I knew Abi. He would come over and “do homework” and eat free pizza while we watched our friend Jenna’s nephew on Wednesday evenings. Warrick made a lot more sense when I met Abi. I know that they say your spouse completes you but it’s completely true with this couple. She brings out the very best in Warrick and I think you can tell from the photos that he’s able to accomplish the same. They’ve been through some hard times in the past few years while away from home (England for her and South Africa for him) but are finally getting ready to bust out of this town and cashed in Abi’s birthday gift of a photo session! Josh and I will miss them greatly but have plans in the works to visit them in the next few years! Enjoy some photos, a little of the story of our adventures that day, and finally a video showcasing their AMAZING accents!

A note: This is a very Lynchburg session because it’s a tribute to their time here! So we hope you enjoy spotting the places you’d see if you walked down Mainstreet or ventured over off 5th!

Abi’s birthday was on Wednesday so we did what any good friends would do and celebrated with Cupcakes from Taste Selects! Warrick icked a bran muffin, I had the truly tasty Carrot Cake and Abi, after much debating, chose the Chocolate Ganache. The cupcake was too cute not to take some photos with so we did!

We shared treats and then wandered up and down Main Street for the rest of their shoot!

Abi tried the serious shot, for Warrick’s sake, I think she did pretty well!

This was too funny not to share. “On the count of three make a ridiculous face at the other…1….2…3!

Take a listen to see how Warrick pronounces his name! Also, understand why you can’t help but smile when you talk to them. So jealous of their accents. I’d try and perfect them if Josh wouldn’t kick me out of the house for assailing his ears!

You will both be greatly missed but I’m so thankful to have gotten to know you while we were on the same continent! Love you!

I’m not sure if you can feel it on days like today (Noah may be floating past my house some time soon) but we’re on the verge of a beautiful spring season. Now, I know, verge might be a bit of a stretch but I’d like to start ringing in the Spring with a celebration of Love. It’s fitting that Valentine’s Day is just three weeks away. So, I’d like to make it easy for you to surprise your special someone or someones (or nudge them to surprise you) with an S. Carter Studios Love Is In The Air mini session. I’m happy to help celebrate dating love, married love, the love between parents and even sibling love. I’m just a sucker, a lover of loving love if you will.

The session fee for our special is $40 and will come with an online gallery of your images. Sessions must take place on Thursday February 11 between 2 and 4 pm or Saturday February 13th between 1pm and 4 pm, contact us to get priority scheduling! We look forward to celebrating with you!

December 30th, 2009FamilyAnother familiar face for today’s catch up post: Elijah. If you have time you should read this post to find out more about him and his family but in a nutshell he’s God’s gift to Ed and Carrie who love him very very much and adopted him over a year ago! I photographed him in May and was glad to chase him around this December as we attempted to get him to smile! He’s such a serious young man but when that gap toothed smile shows up he’s all little boy! Enjoy!

December 29th, 2009FamilyI first met the Chiens in 2007 when I took their wedding pictures. It was a joyful, beautiful occasion that I can still remember well. God saw fit to give them another bundle of joy in their son Stephen who just recently turned one. We met for a mini session and I’m excited to finally share the results with you!

Love this facial expression!

What a handsome and loving family. Thanks for inviting me back into your lives to capture these new and precious memories!

December 28th, 2009FamilyYes, it’s time to continue catching you up on the things you’ve missed while I’ve been finishing out the 2009 year! It was busy at the end but I’m glad to get to have things to share during our down time as well! This post is about the Davies. You’re probably familiar, if you’ve been reading a while, with the Carol and Jordan’s precious baby boy Brinley who I’ve photographed before. They scheduled one of our Fall mini sessions to provide some Christmas gifts and I’m happy to finally be able to share them with you! Enjoy!

December 27th, 2009FamilyIt’s been so hard to hold onto photos until after Christmas! I took these photos of Cole and Lydia, both of whom I had the pleasure of seeing shortly after their debut into the world. Yes, they’re the Parks kids, the most photographed family in my life. But hey, I’m okay with that. If you knew them, you’d understand! Enjoy these photos of their super crazy session.
Cole was about 2 months old when we took these photos. I’ve got to tell you, he’s quite a charmer. I was greatly distracted by his smiles and big blue eyes today in church!

Lydia is a force to be reckoned with! During the shoot she tried to climb the retaining wall and made a cozy seat in someone’s water run off.

The goal was to get some of the two of them together and I’d say we more or less accomplished that!

There may have been some bribing with marshmallows and chocolate chips.

This is one of my favorites.

I love this look on his face as Lydia leans forward to touch him. The hesitant and slightly scared face of a younger brother. Classic.

We’ll polish off this post with a look at the smile Cole flashes his mom. I am pretty sure I’d be toast if I had him hanging around all the time. I’d be content just to sit and stare.
